"City on Fire" by Don Winslow: Two criminal empires together control all of New England. Until a beautiful modern-day Helen of Troy comes between the Irish and the Italians, launching a war that will see them destroy an alliance and set a city on fire. Exploring the classic themes of loyalty, betrayal and honor, "City of Fire" is a contemporary "Iliad," a saga that spans generations.
"The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America’s Bird" by Jack E. Davis: Taking us from before the nation’s founding through recent, almost inconceivable population resurgences, this book follows the travails of this exclusively North American bird across five centuries, revealing how its history is entwined with our own.
"Writing with Fire": In northern India, a fearless group of journalists maintains the country’s only women-led news outlet. Reporting from an environment in which people are divided by gender and social caste, the team at Khabar Lahariaya begins to shift the newspaper from print to digital. Armed with new smartphones, chief reporter Meera and her fellow investigative journalists confront the biggest social and political issues in India today, providing a voice for members of society who long have been voiceless.
"The Ghosts of Rose Hill" by R.M. Romero: Ilana Lopez is a girl with a passion for violin sent to live with her aunt in Prague. In a cemetery behind her aunt’s cottage, she meets a century-old ghost of a boy named Benjamin, who introduces her to a hidden side of Prague where ghosts reside. But when the man with no shadow, Rudolph Wasserman, takes a liking to Ilana and her music, she must choose to save Benjamin, even if it means losing him.
"Bluey: Good Night, Fruit Bat": Join our friend Bluey as she readies for bed. There’s just one problem ... she doesn’t want to sleep! She wants to stay up all night like a fruit bat. "Good Night, Fruit Bat" is one of several based on the ABC Kids TV series and one of a few new Bluey books at the library.
There still is time to join in on the fun by signing up for the children’s or adult’s Summer Reading programs. The library has many events planned as part of the program.
